APPLICATION DETAILS
Preparation

Surface preparation is critical to the outcome and longevity of the surface finish. All surfaces to be coated with Monocel Water Based Wipe-On Gel Stain should be clean and dry, free from wax, oil, grease and other contaminants. Fine sanding with 240-grit sandpaper, rounding off all sharp edges and corners, then thoroughly dust prior to application. A tack rag is recommended for dusting.

All previous paint, varnish, shellac or lacquer must be totally removed and stripped back to bare timber before coating with Monocel Water Based Wipe-On Gel Stain. If the surface has been previously coated with Monocel Water Based Wipe-On Gel Stain, the surface should be sanded back lightly removing and lifted or cracked film and thoroughly cleaned before re-coating.

Ensure adequate ventilation during use.

ALWAYS test the product on a small inconspicuous area or off-cuts first to ensure the product does not react adversely with surface and ensure the product is suitable for your specific requirements.

Application

Shake bottle before use. Squeeze out onto rag (Do not squirt directly onto timber)
Apply while undercover and out of direct sunlight. Using a clean, lint-free rag for application. Fold rag to expose a small corner for controlled application. Invert bottle and rag to transfer stain.

Apply stain evenly to timber surface using circular or linear strokes.Work in manageable sections to maintain a wet edge. Wipe off excess stain. Apply subsequent coats in 2 hours if a deeper colour is desired, following the same procedure.

Drying & Clean Up

Allow stain to dry for minimum of 2 hours, If you are satisfied with the colour, coat immediately with varnish, wax our oil. If you would prefer a richer colour, Apply additional coats. Leaving freshly stained timber uncoated will cause the stain to dull

TIPS & FAQ’s
  • Testing a small inconspicuous area first is essential, due to the varied nature of wood & timber certain species have richer tannins builds, are softer or harder and various porosity /absorption rates
  • Do not squeeze directly onto the surface, squeeze onto a rag then rub into the surface.
    • Do not use below 10º C, or above 30º C.
    • The number of applications depends on the porosity and existing colour depth of the timber.
  • Good ambient temperatures will assist in the flow Monocel Wipe-On Gel Timber Stain.
  • Not suitable for flooring or areas exposed to foot traffic.
  • Not suitable for rough sawn or un-sanded timbers.

Clean Up

  • Wash your equipment in water.
  • Seal washings and unwanted leftovers and dispose of responsibly.

SAFETY

  • Store out of reach of children.
  • Skin: wash the area well with running water.
  • Eyes: flush the eye with running water for several minutes, contact your doctor.
  • Breathing: use in a well ventilated area; when spraying, use a suitable respirator.
  • Swallowed: drink water, do not induce vomiting and contact your doctor or the Poison Information Centre on 13 11 26
