Featured FAQ
How do I choose the correct paving or concrete sealer?
When choosing a paving sealer there are a number of considerations to take into account, these include the density of the pavers, the desired gloss level, the level of stain resistance required and the location of the paving to be sealed.
When choosing a paving sealer for very dense pavers it is often better to use a solvent based sealer (Bondall Pool Paving Sealer or Bondall Multi Surface Waterproofer) because they tend to have better penetrating properties than water based sealers. In some cases such as with Austral Riviera pavers, sealing is not recommended.
One of the advantages of using a paving sealer is improving the stain resistance of the pavers; however different types of sealers have varying levels of stain resistance. A strictly film forming paving sealer (Bondall Paving and Concrete Sealer) will provide better stain resistance than a penetrating and film forming sealer (Bondall Natural Finish Sealer) which in turn will provide better stain resistance than a strictly penetrating sealer (Bondall Pool Paving Sealer or Bondall Multi Surface Water Proofer)
As with stain resistance a strictly film forming paving sealer will have a higher gloss level than a penetrating sealer. A penetrating and film forming sealer (Bondall Natural Finish Sealer) will retain a natural matt to low sheen finish while also providing some stain resistance for your pavers.
Concrete surfaces will often ‘dust up’ when left untreated. Paving sealers can be used to prevent this from happening. A film forming sealer (Bondall Paving and Concrete Sealer) or penetrating and film forming sealer (Natural Finish Sealer) will stop this from happening.
The location of your pavers is an important factor to take into account when choosing a paving sealer. Many paving sealers will make a surface more slippery which can make them inappropriate for wet areas such as pool surrounds others may not resist staining which makes them inappropriate for areas such as garages.
The first step toward choosing the right paving sealer is deciding what you want to achieve by sealing your pavers. Do you want to improve stain resistance or just waterproof your pavers? Will a natural finish look better than a gloss? By answering these questions your decision will be made much easier.
