Applying a water repellant/ sealer for salt and chlorinated pool surrounds.

Product: Bondall Pool Paving Sealer

Surface Preparation:

TEST AREA: Always test on a small inconspicuous area first to ensure the product does not react adversely with the surface and the end result is what is desired.

• Pool Paving Sealer must be applied to a clean, dry surface. To check if the surface is dry; tape a piece of clear plastic film (300mm x 300mm) onto the surface taping all edges down with masking tape. If moisture appears on the inside of the plastic (between 30 min and 2 hours) do not apply the sealer as it cannot penetrate a damp surface.
• Ensure all surfaces to be sealed with Pool Paving Sealer are clean, dry and free from dust and other contaminants which may interfere with penetration of the sealer.
• Existing Salt Water Pool surrounds – Thoroughly high pressure water clean areas to remove all salt contamination. Allow the pavers to dry a minimum of 3 days before sealing.
• For existing and newly constructed pool areas – (salt or chlorinated) remove any sand, dust and mortar etc by sweep- ing. High pressure water clean and allow to dry for a minimum of 3 days before sealing.
• If there is any white powdery efflorescence this will need to be removed with a stiff wire brush and damp cloth before sealing.

PRECAUTIONS

• Maintenance – For salt water pools regularly wash area to remove salt contamination.
• Due to the many varieties of pavers produced, we recommend you discuss with the manufacturers their recommenda- tion of suitable sealers.
• Form Releasing Agents on some pavers will need to be removed prior to the application of the sealer.
• Pool Paving Sealer will not prevent the growth of mould; however it will make it easier to remove.
• Over application of sealer or application on a damp surface may leave the surface tacky. If this occurs wipe with a cloth soaked in mineral turpentine immediately, allow cloth to dry and dispose of as per local council regulations.
• If pavers are contaminated by oil etc, remove as soon as possible with detergent and warm water.
• Do not apply to previously painted surface, terra cotta tiles or sandstone/limestone.
• Do not apply to surfaces that have been treated with hydrochloric acid.

Applications:

• Always check the porosity of the surface by carrying out a splash test prior to sealing; if the water beads and does not penetrate into the substrate we do not recommend the use of Pool Paving Sealer.
• Pool Paving Sealer can be applied by brush, roller or low pressure spray.
• Generally 2 coats will be required. After allowing 24 hour drying of the first coat carry out a splash test. If the water beads a second coat is not required. Do not over apply. On more porous substrates 3 or more coats may be required.
• Do not apply if the surface or air temperature is below 10°C or if relative humidity is above 85% or if rain is expected.

Coverage

Coverage rates are a guideline only and dependent on surface porosity, texture and application technique used. On certain surfaces this may vary considerably from our estimations.

As a guideline only :

• On high density surface e.g. reconstituted limestone, large format pavers approximately 10m² -15m² per litre.
• On clay and concrete pavers first coat 3.5m² per litre. Second coat approximately 7m² per litre.

Thinning

Not recommended, use undiluted.

Drying Time

Usually overnight drying

Clean Up

Clean all equipment promptly with mineral turpentine. Do not pour contents or washings down the drain or sink. Dispose of as per local council regulations.

Precautions/ First Aid

• Provide adequate ventilation during use.
• Flammable – avoid flame. Do not smoke.
• It is recommended that personal protective clothing should be worn including coveralls, impervious gloves and goggles.
• Avoid unnecessary skin contact and inhalation – use a suitable respirator if spray application is employed.
• If swallowed, contact a doctor or the Poison Information Centre on 13 11 26. Give a glass of water to drink and do not induce vomiting.
